Stewardship

Mission Statement:

St. Joseph’s Parish promotes an understanding of stewardship as the very basic acknowledgement that everything we have is a gift from God, which in turn establishes our Christian response to commit to use our time, talent and treasure to enhance our lives, our faith community, and the lives of others who may need the time, talent and/or treasure we generously offer. By responsibly managing and caring for God’s gifts to us, and by sharing them with others, we will demonstrate our gratitude for these gifts in prayer, worship, giving and taking action, out of the love of God and one another.

Stewardship and the Bishop Clinch Endowment Fund:

Bishop Harry A. Clinch was the first Bishop of the Monterey Diocese. He was named Bishop of Monterey by Pope Paul VI on April 16, 1967, following the split of the Fresno/Monterey Diocese. Before his retirement, Bishop Clinch sold his house in Pebble Beach and donated the proceeds to establish the Bishop Harry A. Clinch Endowment Fund. In 1986, he began the “Endowment Fund” (“Fund”) with the mission to serve charitable, educational, and religious needs within the Diocese of Monterey. All parishes in the Monterey Diocese may participate in the Fund.

Gifts made by St. Joseph’s parishioners that are accepted into the Endowment Fund become its property upon receipt and are identified within the Fund as being attributable to St. Joseph’s Parish. All gifts within the Fund are invested, and investment earnings are periodically distributed by the Fund in accordance with the intent of donors. The ultimate goal of St. Joseph’s participation in the Fund is to support the longevity of our parish.

The Bishop Clinch Endowment Fund established for St. Joseph’s has a current value of approximately $50,000. One hundred percent of interest earned is returned to St. Joseph’s for either its immediate use or is rolled over into the principal on hand, as deemed appropriate by St. Joseph’s Finance Council.

Endowment Opportunity for St. Joseph's Parishioners:

If you haven’t yet admired the wonderful garden above the parking lot at the northwest corner of the Church, please take some time to appreciate the ambiance that has been created there. It features the bell from the old church, a bench for relaxing, meditating, or contemplating, and a planted fountain. As mentioned previously, and coming before the end of summer, there will be a hand-crafted Remembrance Tree installed on the wall opposite the silver cross. Here is where the endowment opportunity comes in: the leaves for the tree are now available for purchase and will be engraved with your name(s) or the name(s) of loved ones and/or friends, which will be memorialized on the tree for generations to come. The initial price for each leaf is $150. Greater amounts per leaf will be enthusiastically accepted, all the better to increase St. Joseph’s portion of the Bishop Clinch Endowment Fund.
